Best Luxury Resorts in Koh Samui: Cape Fahn Hotel

Koh Samui hotels

The first three months of 2022 we spent traveling all over Thailand. By the end of March, we had seen so much of the country and, quite frankly, were extremely tired. We spent the last week of our adventure lounging on the beachy island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand. And for the last two nights of our Thailand adventure, we did it up in style with a stay at one of the best Koh Samui hotels: the intimate, super-luxe (though incredibly approachable) Cape Fahn.

The Cape Collection of hotels is a highly curated brand that includes six small, yet luxurious, hotels and resorts. The brand is Thai-founded, and each resort is designed with the environment and local residents in mind. Koh Samui resorts are famous worldwide, but Cape Fahn stands out because it is one of the top Koh Samui resorts with a private beach. It sits on its own tiny private island a stone’s throw from “mainland” Koh Samui, which gives it an even more tranquil vibe.

I truly loved this hotel and it was the perfect way to cap off a three-month adventure exploring the depths of Thailand. Read on for my full review of Cape Fahn Hotel, one of the best luxury resorts in Koh Samui. And If you’re so inclined to book it for yourself, you can do so right here.

Koh Samui Hotels: The Vibe of Cape Fahn Hotel

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

The arrival experience to Cape Fahn Hotel sets the tone for the rest of the stay. We boarded a small boat on Koh Samui and took it a brief 300 feet across a small channel to Cape Fahn, which sits on its own tiny, rocky island. Once we arrived, we were handed a refreshing welcome tea and cookies before being whisked off to our private villa.

The vibe here promotes instant relaxation, as the whirring, party-heavy world of Koh Samui nightlife melts away behind you. Individual villas are peppered throughout the property. The tone is serene and calm. Service is next-level, as well.

Koh Samui Resorts: The Amenities at Cape Fahn Hotel

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

The focal point of the resort's amenities is its fabulous seafront infinity pool. Lined with cream-colored chaise lounges and umbrellas, the turquoise color of the pool blends effortlessly into the turquoise color of the sea. There are three pools at the pool deck: the main saltwater pool, a children's pool, and an adults-only plunge pool.

Cape Fahn does have a sugary stretch of white beach, but how much beach you get depends on the tide. It can also look quite rocky sometimes. I was less impressed with the beach, but personally I'm much more of a pool person.

Behind the pool deck is a cozy reading room, which is a perfect spot to curl up with a book. Or, if you really want to splurge, Cape Fahn has a yacht available for excursions like tours, sunset cruises, or full-day trips to nearby islands or national parks.

Best Luxury Resorts in Koh Samui: The Rooms at Cape Fahn Hotel

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

I cannot stress enough how spectacular these rooms are. The rooms at Cape Fahn are among my most favorite anywhere in the world. We checked into an Ocean View Pool Villa, which sits a bit higher up on the hill and has spectacular views through the trees out to sea. The suite has its own private pool and terrace, bedroom, separate living room, rain shower and bath tub, and an additional outdoor shower.

We hardly ever left the suite because it was so luxurious and comfortable. Guests download an app to their phone, so you can order room service without having to talk to anyone — a win in my book. We would spend the day working on the outdoor lounge chairs and taking breaks by swimming in our ocean-view infinity pool.

Koh Samui Resorts with Private Beach: The Dining at Cape Fahn Hotel

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

From the fluffy omelets at breakfast to the fiery Thai cuisine at dinner, to the yummy healthy wraps and salads for room service, we did not have a bad meal at Cape Fahn Hotel. The real treat here is to experience dinner at Long Dtai restaurant, the hilltop restaurant that has sweeping views of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan in the distance. Long Dtai serves a delicious twist on Thai cuisine. We ordered the spicy yellow curry of prawns and local fish, chicken with black pepper, and succulent grilled tiger prawns that were as big as our fists. A meal here, particularly at sunset, is a must.

Koh Samui Hotels: The Wellness at Cape Fahn Hotel

Overall Score: Above Average

Admittedly I did not book a spa treatment so I cannot speak on that. I did, however, use the gym and I found it was pretty standard. It had brand-new equipment and plenty of cardio machines. The weight situation I found to be lacking, though. However there are plenty of ways to stay in shape while visiting Cape Fahn, particularly if you like exercising with activities like kayaking or stand up paddle boarding.
