Best Beach Resorts in Mexico: St. Regis Punta Mita

Best beach resorts in mexico

I feel incredibly fortunate to say that the St. Regis Punta Mita is one of my go-to best beach resorts in Mexico. The gorgeous Punta Mita resort is one of the most luxurious hotels in Mexico, with gorgeous villa-inspired rooms and a prime beachfront location overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Over the course of my time getting to know (and love) Puerto Vallarta, the St. Regis Punta Mita has been central to my experience. Fun fact: After David and I had our first Tinder date, I got back on a plane three weeks later to visit him. My mom was so nervous that I was flying to Mexico to meet a stranger, that she asked if I could arrange a hotel stay for work so that someone would be "expecting" us. I called a friend at the St. Regis Punta Mita, and voila, David and my second date was at this five-star luxury resort in Mexico.

It has remained a favorite ever since.

Punta Mita is a beachfront village along the Riviera Nayarit, about 40 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. Just outside of the beach town is an exclusive gated community that is home to luxury villas, the St. Regis Punta Mita, and the Four Seasons Punta Mita. While I typically don’t advocate for staying in gated communities in Mexico because it creates such a division, it’s undeniable that the St. Regis Punta Mita is one of the best hotels in Punta Mita, if not one of the best beach resorts in Mexico. Plus, it’s not often that you find a resort that is both one of the best resorts in Mexico for families and one of the best resorts in Mexico for couples.

Admittedly, nowadays some aspects of the resort are showing a bit of wear and tear. But the St. Regis Punta Mita is actually in the process of undergoing renovations and is expected to be completely renovated by the end of 2023. I cannot wait to see what the changes will bring! For now, though, this still remains one of my most favorite resorts in Mexico, and one of the best resorts in Punta de Mita, and I'm excited to tell you why.

If you're feeling so inclined to book the St. Regis Punta Mita and experience it for yourself, you can do so right here.

Best Beach Resorts in Mexico: The Vibe of St. Regis Punta Mita

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

From the minute you arrive at the St. Regis Punta Mita, you’re whisked off into a world of five-star service and amenities, but with a completely approachable and casual vibe. There is nothing stuffy about being at this resort. The quality and service is next-level, but the vibe never feels arrogant.

I loved how extremely friendly and helpful the staff were. By the time I left this most recent visit, I knew most of them by name and they equally knew mine. I’d be ordering lunch and before you know it, 10 minutes had gone by because the staff and I had just been chatting about everything under the sun, from where we grew up to our favorite places in Mexico and everything in between. The resort is designed to be five-star in amenities and decor, but it’s really the people who work here that take it over the top in terms of a wonderful experience.

Best Resorts in Mexico for Families: The Amenities at St. Regis Punta Mita

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

One thing is for certain — you will never be bored at St. Regis Punta Mita. There is just so much to do. Personally, I loved camping out at the adult's only pool all day, which has several tiers and overlooks the ocean. It's quiet and peaceful, and absolutely gorgeous.

But if you're coming with a family, there is a family-friendly pool, which is just as beautiful and is closer to the Mita Mary Boat Bar & Bistro — a must for a casual lunch or dinner.

The beach is really lovely at the resort, too, with very calm water sheltered by rocks, and lengthy stretches of sand to walk and explore. This is especially perfect at sunset.

We also took part in a mezcal tasting with canapé pairing, which was a real highlight of the trip. If you're new to mezcal (or if you love mezcal), this is an experience you won't want to miss. The resort also has daily included experiences, like a Champagne Toast every evening at 6pm, where someone opens a bottle of Veuve Clicquot with a sabre. It's very chic and also a great opportunity to socialize with the other guests.

Best Resorts in Mexico for Couples: The Rooms at St. Regis Punta Mita

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

I love the rooms at St. Regis Punta Mita. The luxury bungalow-style rooms have beautiful patios or terraces, plush beds, and sprawling marble bathrooms that include both an indoor and outdoor shower. The rooms are in need of a refresh, but thankfully that is coming, and I’m sure they will look spectacular.

Part of the room rate includes a Butler Service, too. If you’re like me, the concept of a butler is a little uncomfortable, so you by no means are required to use the butler for their numerous services, like packing or unpacking your clothes. I did use our butler for the morning coffee service, where they bring coffee prepared to your liking to your room at whatever time you desire. I also requested gym reservations and dinner reservations through my butler. It’s basically like having a privacy concierge, which is a term I’m much more comfortable with.

Hotels in Punta Mita: The Dining at St. Regis Punta Mita

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

If there's one thing I did well at St. Regis Punta Mita, it was eat. The food here is superb. From the poolside food to the fine dining, you won't have a bad meal at this resort.

I wholeheartedly recommend the spicy crab rolls and oysters poolside. The food comes from Mita Mary Boat Bar & Bistro, which is also a great option for dinner. The catch of the day sashimi is excellent.

Breakfast at Sea Breeze is delightful, as well. You can either order from the menu or visit the buffet. Personally, I love a good breakfast buffet for customizable omelets and, in the case of St. Regis Punta Mita, customizable tacos and quesadillas.

We spent one meal dining at the exclusive Carolina Restaurant, A AAA Five Diamond Award-winning experience that serves up a tasting menu of modern Mexican cuisine. It was such a spectacular experience and worth every indulgent bite.

Resorts in Punta de Mita: The Wellness at St. Regis Punta Mita

Overall Score: Extremely Memorable

I cannot say enough good things about the spa at St. Regis Punta Mita. I had a 90-minute Burnout Massage and it was such a wonderful combination of tension-relieving, relaxing, and intense. I highly recommend you take advantage of the steam room, sauna, and whirlpool before your treatment.

The gym at St. Regis Punta Mita is perfectly fine. It's a bit small for my liking and I found it did not have all the equipment I needed. That said, I'm a bit of a gym nut and not everyone likes to do their full, entire workout while on vacation at a luxury resort. I was able to be creative enough to make it work, but I don't like having to change my routine up too frequently.
