Hotel Review: Temptation Cancun Resort

Temptation Cancun Resort is an all-inclusive resort in Cancun

There was a time when all I seemed to write about was sex. I was in my 20s, what can I say? I had just started freelancing and the travel space was pretty oversaturated, so I started writing about sex to make a splash on the scene. And boy, did I. But after a few years that genre started growing a little tired for me. I was getting older. I felt I had said all I had to say on sex and I was ready to push pause on shocking people. So when I was invited to visit Temptation Cancun Resort I was, admittedly, a little skeptical.

This time, however, I actually had a partner in crime to go with me. I had been to Hidden Beach (a nudist resort) alone. I had been to Hedonism (a swinger’s resort), also alone. So the thought of going to a topless optional resort WITH someone was enough of a reason for me to dust off the ole shock meter and give it a whirl. It turns out that Temptation was one of the absolute most fun experiences we’ve had in our entire five-year relationship.

The resort wrapped a $50 million renovation (nay, rebuild) a few years ago, so it seemed like the perfect time to visit. After three nights (and many, many memories), here is the breakdown of Temptation Cancun Resort, based on my own patented rating system

Temptation Cancun Resort hosts themed party nights.

Temptation Cancun Resort Overall Score: Above Average

The Vibe of Temptation Cancun Resort

Overall score: Extremely Memorable

If there’s one thing Temptation does better than practically any other resort, it’s get its guests pumped, makes them feel included, and encourages everyone to laugh. David and I are both introverts, for the most part (him way more so than myself). But the energy, the people, and the staff at Temptation are so welcoming, warm, and with zero f***s to give that we couldn’t help let go and be exactly who we are. (No, I did not go topless, but neither did many other women and none of us felt out of place.) For those who did go topless, sure it was surprising to see boobs everywhere, but by the second day everyone was kind of over it. No one was lewd, no one was inappropriate, and no one made us feel unsafe. This is why the Social category earned a Best Ever, which is a rarity to give. It truly was THE BEST EVER. Service and Cleanliness got Extremely Memorable (dear god, I hope the cleanliness was Extremely Memorable). I gave the Design an Above Average. After $50 million it really was something sparkly and new. That said, the colors were very bright and I felt like I had been dropped into a Tropical Skittles bag, but that’s just my personal opinion.

The Amenities at Temptation Cancun Resort

Overall score: Above Average

I went to a foam party at 32 years old, so that right there gives the pool an Extremely Memorable. Well, that and all the boobs. Plus David and I had such an awesome time dancing and making friends - of which we made many. We’re even visiting a couple friend we made who live in Chicago. The beach was above average, but the real scene is at the pool. AT THE POOL. The location of the hotel is Above Average, as well, within walking distance to the nightlife options in the Hotel Zone. But, to be honest, if you’re staying at an all-inclusive I don’t think you are really planning to go very far.

The Rooms

Overall score: Above Average

While the color scheme wasn’t exactly my jam, the bed was definitely above average, there was plenty of outlet space, it was clean, and you could order room service over the TV - which we did a LOT of. Note: Only VIP rooms in the Towers have room service included.

The Dining

Overall score: Above Average

Long gone are the days when all-inclusives carry around the stigma of terrible food. It’s so important these days for all-inclusives to have dining that is several notches above “tolerable.” So I will definitely give Temptation Resort Cancun an above average. David’s determination was that the in-room dining wings were among the best he’s had (which is huge praise). The burger I had at the RAIN all-day restaurant was highly enjoyable. The teppanyaki at SUTRA was delicious. I was not entirely jazzed about my spaghetti bolognese at ROMANZA.

The Wellness

Overall Score: Above Average

It’s really hard to drag yourself out of bed to get to the spa when you were up at a toga party the night before, but if I had to drag myself anywhere then the relaxation massage at the spa was one of the better places to be. The sauna and steam room were really relaxing, as well. I thought that the hydrotherapy tub was a little lackluster. The gym, however, is one of the most comprehensive hotel gyms I have ever seen.
